Do I need to buy a license for my backup/DR system? Do you have special deals for backup systems?
Yes, we have special arrangements for backup or Disaster Recovery (DR) or High Availability (HA) systems.
We define a backup system as one where the software will only ever be run as an alternative to an already licensed system, or short periods of testing (no more than 30 days per annum).
In relation to CoolSpools and backup systems, you have two options:
Option 1. Purchase an annual CoolSpools subscription licence for your backup system, allowing the software to be available whenever it is needed.
The subscription includes software support for the duration of the subscription term. To qualify, the customer shall certify that the system is a backup system, as defined above, and maintain a current software support agreement for the corresponding live production system. Annual subscription licence keys will only be issued upon receipt of payment. As licence keys are tied to a specific IBM i serial number and LPAR number, this option is only available where those details are known in advance.
The main advantage of this approach is that CoolSpools is immediately available on your backup system, eliminating the need to request licence keys and avoiding any potential delays. This provides greater certainty and peace of mind, particularly during critical recovery situations when rapid access to essential software is required.
Option 2. Obtain a temporary licence key for CoolSpools on your backup system whenever you need to run the software there.
Provided your live production system is covered by a current support and maintenance agreement, temporary licence keys can be issued free of charge, allowing up to 30 days’ use per year on the backup system.
The principal advantage of this option is that there is no additional cost. However, each time access is required, you must contact us to request a temporary licence key. Whilst we will endeavour to respond as quickly as possible, we cannot guarantee a turnaround time of less than two working days.
This arrangement is generally suitable for planned disaster recovery tests, where access requirements are known in advance. However, in the event of an actual disaster, there is a risk that CoolSpools may not be available on the backup system immediately, potentially resulting in a delay of several days before the software can be used.
